1. I was born in August 1965 and brought up in Stirling
2. Christian upbringing, went to Sunday School and church every week
3. Mum was a Sunday School teacher; I became a helper at age of 11.
4. Joined Girls Brigade in 1973 and went through all sections until I gained Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
5. Started doing Sunday school teaching at the age of 16.
6. Started helping out in Boys Brigade from age 16, went through officer training at the age of 17 and stayed with them until I had Andrew in 1991.
After starting a family I found it more difficult getting to church and fell away for a few years, but to be honest the message was not getting through to me and I found church almost a thing that I felt I had to go to. In 1993 we moved to Larbert and started going to Larbert Old Parish. We went here for a few years but probably just because I felt that it was what we should do.
Andrew started school in August 1997 and came along to Good News Club at the Baptist church later in the year. He really enjoyed it and parents were invited to come along one morning to the service to see the kids perform in the service. We were made so welcome and everyone was so friendly. Andrew and Nicole even went to Sunday School that morning and begged afterwards to go back here rather than the other church. We started coming regularly to the Baptist church. There was no pastor at that time in 1999. One day there was a sermon being given by a frail looking man called Guy Finnie. How deceiving looks can be, he was so full of gusto and that was the turning point for me. I just wanted to be with and serve the Lord from then on. I then got involved in helping with the church activities like crèche and The Good News Club. I was the first to be baptised in the new baptistery in our church. What a day that was, the water was slow filling up and we had to fill it with buckets!!!!
I feel that I am now able to serve the Lord in the best way that I can just now. I feel so blessed with all those who make up the big church family and I really appreciate the opportunities that we have in the church to share our times together, whether it is listening in church, teaching in Sunday School or being part of Friday Focus.
I pray and give thanks everyday that I have been given this opportunity to serve The Lord.
